What kind of video camera best?
I’m wanting to get a Camcorder but I have no clue what is best. There’s flash memory, hard drive, mini dv, and dvd. Whats the difference in performance and which is best?
Depends on what you mean by “best”.
“Best” video quality will come from a decent camcorder (from Sony, Panasonic, Canon and others) using miniDV tape. Next best are flash memory or hard drive (they same in the same highly compressed formats.
“Best” for loud audio (bands, loud crowds, planes, motors, etc.) would not be hard drive based because the vibration will cause the hard drive heads to park. “Best” for high altitude would not be hard drive based because the lack of air pressure will cause the hard drive heads to park. In either case, the camcorder will not record. Flash memory and miniDV tape do not have these vibration and altitude issues.
“Best” for loud audio would be a camcorder with manual audio control.
What is your budget? Start there, then see what is available from Sony, Panasonic and Canon that is not hard drive based and not DVD based… that leaves flash memory and miniDV tape.
