I'm thinking of buying an iPhone for geocaching instead of a Garmin Oregon 550T. Opinions?
I have Verizon Wireless and does not change my supplier. I do not intend to use the iPhone for a phone. I intend to use for a device GPS, camera, MP3 player, video player, picture viewer, games, etc. ….., but I do not intend to use for a cell phone. The Garmin 550T is the top of the line touch screen handheld GPS. It also has an integrated camera 3.2. I can take one of these for about $ 500.00, but I think I can get a cheaper Iphone and put it on the application geocaching and more.
They are slightly applications good enough to find a cache, but please refrain from using GPS phones to hide a cache. Several caches were hidden, then displayed with GPS coordinates of a combo phone were left with severe positioning errors. Proximity (for me) cache, when the first shift, was finally established about 200 feet from the contact list. My phone has a layout application cache, but it is strictly a backup for when I'm in an area without GPS dedicated and I would hunt a cache, and I do not use it to hide a cache:. other a more dedicated GPS are much more robust and weatherproof telephone. If you're in the thick brush hunting a cache in the rain, a phone is probably not what you want.
