MiniDV can read analog tape?
I have old 8mm Sony video tapes that I would be able to play with a Sony MiniDV Digital news video camera. Is this possible? And if so, could I then also move them to my computer via a FireWire cable or the analog tape must be be converted somehow?
Hello, Mini DV Cameras can not play 8mm tapes, they are too big anyway! Unfortunately, you can not buy a converter for VHS tapes or 8 mm, because they use different tape speeds and store information in different ways! Ideally you Need a digital 8mm Camera with a firewire port. You can then transfer directly to your PC using editing software Decent (Adobe Premiere Elements maybe). If you have your old analog 8mm camera, you can connect to your PC via the composite cable (red, white and yellow) but you'll need to have a PC TV capture card / transfer anologue signals to digital.
