Computer with the Linksys router / DSL modem can surf the Internet, but can not be seen?
Recently created to have static IP Cameras Security. For some reason, I am able to surf the Internet from this computer, but no one else can see. I try to ping from the computer and get 0% loss and any other team gets to 100% loss. HELP !!!!!!!! Using Win 2k without using camera software firewall port: 81 … with disabilities all firewall on the router … nut'n yet
The static IP address you use, is routable? If this is a 198.162.xy or 10.xyz one, then it can not being, and this could be a problem. The router is probably going to get the address of the ISP, then they are probably one or more computers connecting to the router. The router will do NAT to allow multiple computers using these private addresses to talk to the Internet, but unless you change the computer to a segment of the DMZ, or create a route static NAT does not allow Internet access to any of the computers behind the router. If the cameras are behind the router, then, must be able to connect all they do have addresses that are on the same subnet – 198.162.1.2-10 for example. If you are trying to reach the computer from the Internet, then you probably want to have a firewall router with VPN capability. Then, just VPN in the box, and viola! Otherwise, anyone on the Internet could reach the box and I do not this is what you want. Good luck!
