Get video off my Camcorder to my computer?

Hello to everyone. I have a JVC GR-D370U digital video camera that records on MiniDV. Ok, I just bought a new computer that has Vista and I went to get a firewire cable. I have 3 points for a plug-in. I tried to front and rear now. When I connect, it displays options Autoplaying or import video or file. I choose to import. Well, sometimes it tells me there is no compatible camera connected to close the program and try again, then I can go beyond that and choose to save the file as whatever and I saw the import screen ONCE. He is not coming back, or cut completely without any warning. Does anyone know what is going on here?

Vista has all sorts of compatibility issues with different hardware. Go to JVC and download the latest driver for your camera to Vista, which should solve the problem.
