What is a Digital Video Camera decent?
I am looking for a digital video camera, but I am also a consultant for more information about them. I'm not sure what is a mini dv. I think that's what it's called. I see some Cameras have SD memory sticks. I like to use my computer to make movies and chapters chapters. I had an Analog Camera and video placing on the computer was not the best quality. Mainly I want a camera to take to events and races. I do not know what would be a decent megapixels. I do not need anything above the line. Brand does not matter. Something practical and easy to use.
Short answer … I recommend Sony first. it is the only brand of Camcorder that has "night vision" … that is, the ability to record in zero-lux (no light … full darkness) … and low lux (low light). No other brand can do that. Model will depend your needs or desires. I do not like something burning CDs … using the battery for the laser and the CD-carrying motor whenever the camera is on … : (And then shock / vibration can sometimes be a problem …. Mini DV tapes are like small … it is always digital. The tapes are cheap and easy … = Down with duct tape, moisture / humidity can be a problem (but I have several brands of cameras, Sony is not me and my never dropped). Memory Stick … so if you can get with a capacity large enough, without costing an arm … it might be easier to xfer computers, and some HDTV. But the video taking up much space, unless you cut down on the size and picture quality … and it why I'm still using Mini. I think the top 3 will be Sony … Panasonic … and Sharpe. I have a Panasonic, too … not bad … has some features of My Sony does … but I still prefer Sony … cuz of the night-vision. When you shop … pay attention to where the carrier is responsible. Think the cam being mounted on a tripod, and having to get out of memory on fresh media … if it is loaded from the bottom, which can be a real disappointment. And reflect on the process of swapping out and handling of DVDs at the races … or at any event. All it takes is specification of dust or dirt … a fingerprint … Caries … and it may or may not register correctly.
