What does "data type" in-Camera Digital video recording?
My Canon SX100 IS digital camera has two options for video recording. 1. Normal mode 2. LP in LP mode lets you record video twice as much then normal. recorded in both the way and found the following information when I checked the video file properties. Normal mode: Data Rate 14884kbps LP mode: 7384kbps data rate lowest rate Does media data of low quality video over high-speed data, then?
The data rate (also bitrate) is the recording speed … basically, the amount of data is used to represent the video. So yes, if you drop by half the amount of information, something has to suffer. There are points beyond what it takes a trained eye to notice the difference … tape usage records in 25Mb / s, some high-end pro formats go to 50 Mb / s, or even 100 Mb / s, but much of that would be lost in the average viewer. However, when they have a different configuration in Camcoder or camera with video capabilities is better to think you'll see a difference. Sometimes low modes also lower resolution, sometimes less so. Consider your Canon SX100. Your best video is the recording at 640×480 resolution at 30 progressive frames per second, which is only slightly less information than a typical Digital Video Camera. You being recorded in Motion JPEG format, which is essentially the same as the DV format, and is using only a little over half the data rate (14.8Mb / s compared to 25 Mb / s) .. you will see compression artifacts in the highest video quality, at least in some ways, a DV Camcorder. Of course, it is an excellent lens, good sensor, etc etc many things you can not see a big difference compared to a "real" video camera, but the potential is there. So now released as a LP … half again the bit rate … I could look ugly .. same information twice the compression. Depends somewhat on what is filming, but at this level, most people see a difference, not a thing at the expert level is right in front of yer.
