Suggestions for a quality HD Video Camera with manual focus / good picture?
I am in charge of investigating an HD video camera to use at my job, something that has a manual focus and a good lens (maybe even interchangeable lenses). Must have a great picture quality. I have some video experience, but honestly not much of it has been recent in the way of HD, so help would be great. The camera will be used to shoot short video scenarios for web delivery. More often than not, it will likely sit on a tripod, and we will have 3 point lighting. We are not looking for top of the line, so something prosumer or high end consumer would be great.
Suggestions? Let’s hear them (and please give me important features and the Price point)!
EDIT: I am not sure what editing software we are gonna use at this time, I would imagine Final Cut Pro on a mac, or Premeire / After Effects on a PC.
Least expensive high definition HDV format with a mic jack and manual audio control: Canon HV40. The manual focus is not a focus ring, but a thumb wheel on the left side of the Camcorder body.
Least expensive high definition HDV format prosumer with a proper focus ring (and mic jack and manual audio control) is the Sony HDR-FX7.
Both are miniDV tape based and require the editing computer to have a firewire port. After editing, export to h.264/AVC 720p format (AVI, MOV, MP4) and upload.
You did not tell us what computer hardware/software will be used for editing and rendering…
Least expensive camcorder with “interchangeable lenses” will be in the Canon XLH series or Sony HVR-Z7 – most other prosumer/high end consumer Camcorders can add wide angle or tele lenses, but this is not “interchangeable”. There are DSLRs with interchangeable lenses that can do high definition video capture (like the Nikon D90), but the audio options are not very good.
