I prefer the Canon G9, because of its superior image quality. It has less noise in pictures taken in low light. Nikon P5100 is the smallest, and handles much better with its handle pronounced. Both allow you to connect an external flash, however, the G9 will be less unbalanced at this weight additional. The G9 has a higher optical zoom, which gives more flexibility to shoot high quality photos to telephoto. Remember, these Cameras also allow you to record videos very high quality too, so that's a plus.
