Freedom to take as many photographs as you like

With the digital format we are now hardly limited at all when it comes to the number of photos we will be able to take. This way, paying for the printing of all the images, whether or not they are good, has been eliminated.

This is all good, however you do need to get into the habit of going through your photos and editing or deleting your collection. Otherwise, you may have a huge collection of mediocre shots.

Ways to save space

One great way to save on space is to save your images in a lower resolution format. Lowering picture resolution is a great way to save on storage space.

you will only need a high resolution for your photographs if you need a crisp picture for a large printed picture. If in your basic photography you are exclusively going to use the pictures on-line and or on a PC, you can use a smaller quality setting. It is also possible with many cameras to change the compression rate/format that your camera saves its images in. If your camera can do this the feature could be used to save space on your camera’s memory card and so give you access to a large number of photos on the same card.

You should increase your storage space because eventually, you’ll run out. If you have any experience with the old film cameras I’m sure you know what it’s like to run out of space for photos just when you were poised to take your best ever photo.

How to avoid running out of battery

Many people just do not realize it, but the camera’s battery is very important.

If you are running low on battery power, avoiding overuse of your LCD digital display should help significantly to lengthen your cameras usage time. Not using Flash will also help a lot.

Having spare batteries with you at all times is very important, whether you’re camera has its own special power pack or it takes rechargeable batteries, make sure you have several spares with you. Don’t worry about your lack of experience, if you take some time to educate yourself and practice with your digital camera you’ll find it really easy to improve. There’s no reason why you can’t come up with photos you are proud of.

Consumer technology is an intriguing thing.  The availability of equipment and materials on the technology leads nearly everyone to believe they are an expert in the subject field. There’s something about consumer electronics that makes everyone feel they are qualified to present an opinion on the subject.

Regrettably, this can extend to the development of many apparently spontaneous and widely held notions that turn out to be completely incorrect.  Consider these three myths, often perpetuated by well-meaning, but misinformed “experts.”

To hear most individuals utter, the size of your television is a substantial determining element of the quality of your home theater.  If you don’t have a very large screen in the mix, many will automatically assume you have assembled a sub-par system.  The truth of the matter, however, is that a smaller screen can do the job in many circumstances. 

As a popular formula, one probably does not want to use a screen less than twenty-seven inches in size.  It is possible for a screen to be too small, after all.  Twenty-seven inchers may not be enough for every circumstance, but in many settings they are more than adequate.  It all depends upon where people are set relative to the screen and upon the quality of the television set.

A larger screen may seem more movie-like, but in some positions they fail to allow for an optimal experience.  In order to effectively us a big screen, one must have adequate space and have a good seating plan in place.  Older projection televisions, no matter how large the screen provide a poor viewing experience for those looking at the screen from an angle.

If you have the space and can afford a high-quality large screen, you may wish to do just that.  However, if your resources limit you to a lesser expensive (and lower quality) large screen option, you will be able to experience a better home theater experience with a smaller screen—and you won’t miss one bit of the action, either.

Home theaters are often considered a wealthy person’s toy.  Many people will tell you that a home theater investment doesn’t make a lot of sense unless you have a significant amount of disposable income.  A home theater just isn’t within the reach of the Regular Joe, they argue.

Naught could be farther from the truth.  Although home theater was, in their infancy, a diversion for the wealthy, today’s systems can be very affordable and can fit well within the budget of most households. 

Certainly, you can spend a fortune on a top-of-the-line home theater planned to completely replicate the movie house experience.  However, you can bring much of the excitement and quality of a movie theater into your home at a relatively inexpensive mark, if you shop wisely and construct a system that meets your actual needs.

Deal patronizing, the emergence of “home theater in a box” options and the widespread reduction in cost for consumer electronics constitutes buying a home theater economical.  In addition, these systems can be fairly cost-effective when one considers the alternative expenses attendant to movie going at the multiplex.  No one will charge you ten dollars for a small soft drink and stale popcorn at home, after all.

If your speaker systems don’t predominate over your head and take up a great deal of space, there are many who will tell you that your home theater system just isn’t up to task.  There’s a widely held belief that the key to a great sound system for a home theater is choosing huge speakers that can shake a building.

This thinking probably roots from experience with knowledgeable technology.  Once upon a time, bigger speakers were the only ones obtainable that really packed a punch.  However, as with all technology, speakers are shrinking.  There are systems using small cubes that can fill a room with high-fidelity sound as capably as the tower speakers of earlier generations.

There are many large speaker systems that are an audiophile’s aspiration and that can in truth blow one away.  For those of us who don’t want to see our homes become mock-ups of a stadium concert stage, however, there are some great options in smaller speakers that deserve a close look when putting together a home theater system.

Don’t buy into the myths.  Rather, look at the facts involving today’s home theaters.  You will be glad you did.

This week I’ve been looking over several different digital cameras on sale. I’ve selected 2 different cameras for today’s {digital camera hobbyiests|review}. The Nikon D60 Slr and the Nikon D40 DSlr. While both have excellent features, they are lightweight and easy for the beginner, there are some note-worthy differences.

What’s so fantastic about these small but powerful cameras is the user-friendly features. I’m very pleased to say that I’d recommend this camera to anyone looking for an affordable Digital SLR camera. With the Nikon D60 the date can be imprinted if you desire in the lower right hand corner of print as you shoot. Pretty much everything you would normally associate with the DSLR’s are there. They truly offer infinite choices among manual, scene, programmed and automatic modes. 

Both the semi-pro photographer and the novice camera hobbyist will enjoy this digital camera. The next camera I’ve chosen for my review is the Nikon D40 DSlr. The details of this camera are as follows: 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens. 

Perhaps you are finding yourself wanting to dive into the world of photography. The Nikon D40 is easy to use, takes super pictures in automatic mode and is quite an impressive digital camera. 

This digital camera is quite comfortable for the novice to use. It’s controls are simple, and the camera seems to be one with durability. It is also great for the casual hobbyist or someone becoming a little more serious in digital photography. It’s very versatile too. Whether you’re taking wider shots trying to take in the outdoors or getting those close up and personal shots, you have full control over that perfect shot. 

Simple manual modes make this one of the better digitals camera on sale for the beginner. It may be a little bit larger than some prefer in a digital camera. You may want to hold it for a little while, get used to the feel and weight to see if it’s a little heavier than your comfort zone allows.

You’ll find these particular digital cameras for sale this week at a variety of electronic outlets. I wouldn’t classify either of these cameras in the discount digital camera field, but discounted merchandise is sometimes along the lines of the, ‘you get what you pay for’ buyers plan.

Are you considering photography as a hobby? But you don’t want to spend to much in an SLR before you can be sure that you like photography.

Using Canvas Printing To Express Yourself

Taking digital photos and converting them to canvas prints is one of the easiest and best ways to truly express yourself.  A canvas printing of your favorite picture is something that really will stand out from a typical average everyday run of the mill photograph.Canvas prints are a great way to turn your old pictures and photos into art for hanging in your home or office.

Important Aspects Of Canvas Printing

Many people consider canvas printing to be too difficult and in stead settle for sub par printing of their images.  The truth is that if you are willing to take the time to work on your pictures, you can use canvas printing to turn any picture into a work of art.  Whether you are doing still life, skylines, or personal subject is of no consequence as you can use software on you computer to make any these targets a reasonable subject for canvas printing.  I have seen people that do not even know how to use a camera be able to make wonderful pieces of art from images they either got from a friend or pulled of the internet.

If you do have a camera and want to get a fresh start on creating your canvas printing I suggest making sure that you have as high a resolution camera as you can find.You need to know that the canvas print will be much larger than s standard photograph and you don’t want the image to pixelate or appear grainy.  While you can use software to correct those issues it is usually better to simply have a high quality camera so that you do not to make those adjustments.  In addition to that you will some kind of photo editing software.  The software of choice for most people is Adobe Photoshop.The tools built into the program will take your photo image to the next level of art.  Whether you are adjust color, cropping in other images, or drawing directly onto the image yourself Adobe Photoshop will have what you need to get the job done.

After you get all that equipment you now need to find a place to print your photos.  You will find many websites that specialize in canvas printing and local shops, one we use is canvassquare.co.uk Try to find one that does because more then likely once you get one print and see what it looks like, you are going to want to get more.  I would find someone that you feel comfortable working with that does not charge an arm and a leg for their pictures.  But getting your photos printed  on canvas this way can be expensive and much more expensive then regular pictures.  I would expect to pay a minimum of £50 to get it done and that would be for the absolute smallest of photos 10×8.  Larger ones can cost over £100 or more, but shop arround.

Once you have all of these things in order the only thing left to do is find the images you want to work with.  Whether you are using a camera, scanning in old photos, or downloading some public images off of the internet, once you have the physical picture you want to work with dive right in and start editing.Please do remember keep back ups of your images as you progress, this way you can always revert to a previously saved version of your project.  Once you are ready to go, get in touch with the printer, send them the image and see what they think.  That is about it to canvas printing, so get out there and get started today!

Digital Camera Tips - Formatting Your Memory Card

The first time you use a new memory card with your digital camera you should always format it in the camera, or it may not record your images correctly.

Why should you format your memory card?
These cards are like mini computers and have file systems, folders etc.
Formatting in the camera sets the card up so that it functions properly for that particular camera.

Sometimes the camera will recognise a new card and sometimes you need to go into the MENU function of your digital camera.
It is usually found in SETUP however if in doubt check with your manual.

It takes no time at all to do this and you can carry on with the business of taking photos confident in the knowledge that your memory card is functioning correctly.

Please note: Never remove a memory card when the camera is still switched on, or switch the camera off while it is still writing to to the card after you have taken a picture, as in each case the memory card will be corrupted.

After recording images for some time onto a card you could also see error messages on your camera. Reformatting the card should fix this.

The final and most useful reason for formatting is that after successfully downloading your images to your computer (check first!), it is good practice to format your memory card each time you put it back into the camera, even if you have deleted the contents of the card using a computer.

This is a good habit to adopt as it minimizes the risk of communication falures between the card and the camera, especially if you use the card in different cameras.

It is also a quick way to delete your images as reformatting clears or overwrites the file directory.

The question is frequently asked “What if I have deleted all my images in error or my memory card is corrupted?”

Camera manufacturers usually state that formatting a memory card “permanently deletes all photographs and other data the card may contain”.

However, this is not strictly true as the formatting process only overwrites the file directory which contains your image files.The images are usually still there but you cannot access them.

All is not lost! A good photo recovery program can usually retrieve most images. You can download free software from the internet which will help you to recover your lost images.
Check through your search engine of choice for Memory Card Recovery or Disk Recovery.

Whether you are using your digital camera for recreational use or are taking a trip into the world of professional photography, you will find it helpful to understand these important tips to improving the overall quality of each picture that you take. 

1) If you are taking a picture of a person or your favorite pet, make sure that you place the camera at the subjects eye level. If you are photographing a child sitting down or your little puppy playing on the floor, you will need to stoop down to their level. This does not mean that the subject has to be staring into the camera directly because just being at their eye level will create an inviting image. 

2) Stay away from taking a photograph with a lot of activity in the background. Instead, a plain background will bring more attention to your subject and less to what is going on around it. When you look through the viewfinder, also take a moment to scan the surrounding area in an effort to make sure there are no distrations in the background. 

3) Did you know that using your digital camera’s flash outdoors can noticeably enhance the quality of your image? If you are taking photographs on a sunny day, especially, shadows are often very problematic and can sometimes be reduced or eliminated altogether with the use of the flash. This was one digital camera tips I learned by accident. 

4) When taking photos with your digital camera, move as close to your subject as possible. You can use the zoom feature if you are unable to get as close as you would want because your goal should be to fill the entire picture with your subject. If you get too close, however, the photo may end up blurry. If you are in doubt, take several pictures just to make sure you get the perfect one. 

5) Get creative with your digital camera pictures. Take both horizontal and vertical photos. Sometimes it’s easy to get into a habit of using only the horizontal viewpoint. From {taking pictures of pets} to office buildings to landmarks, vertical photos are often the best way to capture every single detail in your subject. 

While you are taking photos, regardless of your location,take special care to notice the lighting. You would be surprised at how an overcast day often provide phenomenal photo opportunities, but you will need to be aware of much more than just the what’s happening in the sky as given in the tips above. If you are using your digital camera indoors, consider the lighting and try to avoid situations that may place a glare in the photo. 

After all, the brightest thing in your photo should be your favorite pet, person, or adventures you will find outside of your home. And of course, that would be the subject.

Tips for winter photography

Don’t put your camera away at the end of fall/autumn.

Winter time is an opportunity to use your camera in lots of different ways.

We should start by covering a few points to consider when using your camera in winter .

Number 1 is dress for the weather! There is nothing worse than being cold, wet and miserable.

Take a warm drink? It’s worth it!

Secondly, you need to take a few basic precautions, or just a little care and protection, with your camera.

If it is cold when you take your camera out of the bag, car, house or whatever, you will be moving it from a warmer environment to a cold one. You will notice that the camera, lens and viewfinder will mist up

This is condensation. Do not rub the lens to clear it. This will completely obscure your nice, clean lens.

Wait for a while until it clears - that is when the camera cools down to the surrounding temperature.

A handy “tool” to carry is a microfiber towel for wiping any moisture off the body. These towels can be found in most outdoor/camping stores.

Do not put a wet camera back in the bag.

If it is wet or raining keep the camera in a plastic bag, one of those you can buy from any grocery store, and make a hole for the lens. You can use the controls through the bag. Cameras, especially digital cameras do not like to get wet. Water and electronics do not go together.

Batteries do not like the cold either and the charge will not last as long during cold weather. The solution is to take spare batteries and keep them somewhere warm, like your inside pockets.

Now we are ready to take photographs why go to all this trouble?

Winter is a time to take dramatic shots of frost, snow and ice, stark landscapes, mysterious mist and fog, and is also ideal for black and white photography.

The light in winter is less so increase exposure and use a tripod or similar to steady the camera.

If using a compact camera try using “night” mode.

However, if there is snow on the ground there will be a lot of reflected light so exposure needs to be reduced.

If you do not have a DSLR camera use the “bright sunlight” mode.

Alternatively, focus on the darker areas of your scene, apply focus lock by pressing the the shutter release halfway, then swing back and set your scene and shoot!

Wet streets, artificial lighting, reflections in wet streets, low winter sun – the list is endless and only limited by your imagination.

In all instances, if your camera is capable, bracket all your shots. You can set to auto or manual bracketing. Check how to set up for your camera in your manual.

With a little practice you will be able to get a least that one great shot out of the bracketed shots.

Remember that with digital cameras you can get an instant replay, adjust and take again until it is right, and also that most digital imaging software on your computer can enhance your shots further.

When you finally make up your mind that you are going to buy a digital camera, have you worked out what you are going to ask for. Photoshop - Adobe Style

There has never been a time in history, as there is today, where we are achieving so many outstanding results in digital photography. While there are a myriad of tools that the computer and internet have made available, that enhance and change the images that come from a photo shoot, none can top the popularity and power of Adobe Photoshop. The program has become so synonymous with editing and creating effects that the term, “to Photoshop” has become a verb that means to enhance or alter an image.

There is also the option to, “Photoshop in”, where you can add new items; accessories or even people to a picture and that was something we could not do before.

Let’s say you want a picture of you shaking hands with the president, well you don’t have to go to Washington anymore to get it, you can just “Photoshop” it in, so it will look as if you were really there.

Similarly, we can Photoshop out things from a picture we don’t want to see there anymore.

If you want to change a physical feature or flaw you can just remove it. Or, if there is something or someone in the background you don’t want in the picture, then you can remove that too. The features on the program are so advanced that you can not even tell that the pictures was altered in some way.

Photoshop has become such a de facto standard for photo processing used, that if you are setting up a photography studio or business; a copy of the software is as necessary as Microsoft word or PowerPoint. Since this software is so popular, you can find it in most retail stores in the computer section. If you feel insecure about learning yet another computer application, you can probably find someone that knows about Photoshop, who can help you jump start learning how to use the software as well.

But Photoshop has not always dominated this genre. The program was created in 1989 by two brothers, John Knoll and Thomas Knoll. As they worked to creat3 Photoshop, the brothers wanted to use it for some custom projects, but it wasn’t long before they realized it’s marketing potential. In 1990 John and Thomas became the bright entrepreneurs of a new company, that they called Adobe and began the business operation right away.

Adobe has been a shining example of how to achieve success in the age of the internet. Today few of us who use the internet are not aware of Adobe. Nearly everyone who uses a computer is more than likely they are award of using the free copy of Adobe reader that they can use to make PDF files.

To really become skilled at using Photoshop, the first thing to do is probably find a copy to experience with. Like most computer applications, you can probably find a copy on a friend’s computer just to tinker with it and get a feel for the controls. But if they are really good at using Photoshop, you should ask them to show you some things on it, and teach you any neat tricks they may have learned themselves.

Picking one afternoon to do this together, could end up getting you addicted to Photoshop.

After you become familiar with it more, then you should purchase your own copy. If you want an evaluation version, you will get many of the basic features. However, you only really need the evaluation version if you are still not sure you are going to buy your own copy. Since Photoshop dominates this market, you most certainly should buy a copy, this will help save some frustration, so it’s a good idea to purchase a licensed copy right away. It can be a fun way to create great projects or gifts for your self or others and you can easily find yourself spending hours enjoying it. But don’t overlook the value of taking some organized classes in photo editing using Adobe Photoshop software. These classes can show you the shortcuts and how to get the most out of the software.

This is a great starting point and one you can develop even further, by being creative in your imagination to find ways to make awesome photo’s for yourself or customers. You will be able to respond enthusiastically when someone says, “That’s ok, you can just Photoshop and fix it right up”.
